Ralf Rangnick has spoken to the media about Paul Pogba’s injury, following our devastating 4-0 loss away at Liverpool.
Well, I guess the realistic Manchester United fans amongst us expected a loss against Liverpool yesterday, but the manner in which the defeat occurred was particularly frustrating.
The players couldn’t have looked any more disinterested if they tried. There was a lack of fight, aggression, passion and genuine care. I guess it was summed up perfectly by Paul Pogba being subbed off after less than five minutes with injury.
I’ll be honest, I questioned the legitimacy of the injury at the time. This says a lot about how Pogba’s time at Old Trafford has gone…
Well, after the game, manager Ralf Rangnick provided an injury update on the French midfielder, who suffered a problem with his calf. He’s pulled a muscle.
Understandably, Rangnick was furious about just how many injuries this United side is picking up. It’s no coincidence that we’re suffering more than most…
Check out what Rangnick had to say on the Pogba injury here:
“Muscular injury in his calf…he pulled his muscle,” Rangnick told the media, including The Mirror. “This is now the seventh or eighth player missing with injury and we’re only playing in one competition. It has to raise some questions.”
The first thing that sprung to my mind was whether we’ll actually see Pogba play for us again?
Our season is now over. Pogba’s been unwilling to put his body on the line for the cause for years. Why should we expect him to change now?
I’m sad that he’s injured because that’s never nice. Part of me is relieved that we’ll likely never have to deal with his antics again. That’s not to take away from Pogba as a player. He’ll no doubt go on to enjoy himself wherever he goes this summer. I just think this match hasn’t worked out as well as we’d all have hoped.
It does provide us with an opportunity to glance a look towards the future, though. You watched Hannibal Mejbri for around ten minutes yesterday. He looked hungrier than the regular starters and that was the one positive we can take away from the mauling we received.
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to see Hannibal given a chance to start between now and the end of the campaign. Particularly in Pogba’s absence.
