Manchester United left it late to rescue a point away at Stoke City over the weekend, with Wayne Rooney finding the back of the net in phenomenal style with a perfectly placed free-kick. The game itself was an onslaught from the away team, but their finishing was rather wayward.
The midfield battle was well and truly won by Jose Mourinho’s men, particularly throughout the second half as the Red Devils pushed for an equaliser. One man who was involved in everything good was Paul Pogba, who grew into the game as it went on.
When United’s 23-year-old began to stamp his authority on the middle of the field, The Potters had no answer to that. However, their social media team couldn’t resist a dig at the most expensive football player in the world…
A fan sent this jibe towards Stoke’s official twitter account:
whelan is amongst the least mobile central midfielders in the league, thus he needs special support

Check out Stoke City’s rather comical response here:
That's strange, he's still fishing £89m out of his back pocket #SCFC https://t.co/XVlRbSfjDy

It’s all in good jest, but there is absolutely no way on this earth that Stoke City and their fans genuinely believe that Whelan had Paul Pogba in his pocket. Alright, for the first thirty minutes or so they were the dominant team, but there was only ever one side who looked like winning that game – and it wasn’t Hughes’ men.
