Paul Pogba’s time at Manchester United is winding down to a close.
Manchester United are a hot mess right now; both on and off the field.
The players aren’t living up to expectations while at board level, mistakes continue to be made. It’s a vicious cycle that has a negative effect on the whole club. Slowly but surely, it’s dragging the Reds down. Until that changes, it’s going to be an awfully long wait before we’re competing for major honours.
As a direct result of the issues, players just don’t want to stay here anymore. We’ve thought that Paul Pogba will be leaving for a while, but a Telegraph exclusive pretty much confirmed that for us over the last 24 hours or so…
Apparently, the United star will let his Reds contract wind down and expire – then decide on his next club this summer. That’s rather than signing a pre-contract with an overseas side before his deal officially ends in a few months’ time.
That’s because Pogba is focused on finishing the season strong for United, which all of us have to appreciate. The cynic in me firmly expects the Frenchman to have a blistering end to the season – just to remind potential suitors exactly how good of a player he is.
Nobody divides fan opinion like Pogba. His talent is supreme but far too often, we’ve seen sub-par performances delivered. Has he lived up to the type and price-tag? Probably not, but that’s not all on him.
As gutting as it will be to lose Pogba on a free, perhaps it’s the best decision United could make. Some sort of reset within that dressing room could do the club the world of good in the long-term. Perhaps moving away from such a big character at this difficult juncture makes sense?
What will be frustrating is watching Pogba tear it up at whatever European giant he ends up next season. I just hope he plies his trade outside of the Premier League…
