In sad news, Manchester United goalkeeper, Paul Woolston, has had to cut short his young playing career due to injury.
Manchester United Football Club have delivered some sad news over the last 24 hours. Paul Woolston will no longer play professional football, the club have confirmed.
The 23-year-old United starlet has been forced into early retirement due to injury, bringing a sad end to a promising young career. The goalkeeper has had multiple surgeries over the last few years and following a significant determination to return to fitness, he’s sadly had to hang up the gloves for good.
Woolston has been at United since 2018 and always carried himself in an exemplary fashion while learning from some of the best in the business; David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
The budding shot-stopper had represented United at both U18 and U23 level, while also playing for England at youth level, too.
I always hate stories like this. Woolston should be at the start of a promising career, but that dream has been tragically ended unfairly due to the fault of nobody. It’s cruel to see that opportunity taken away.
On the flip side, Woolston strikes me as someone who’ll flourish at whatever he does in life. This is a driven young man who can now focus on moving forward in another career path.
Woolston will always have fond memories of playing for the biggest club in the world. Nobody can ever take that away from him and in time, I’m sure he’ll look back on what he’s achieved with immense pride.
It’s also great to hear that United are doing everything possible to help Woolston on from here. This is a true family club that should stand by the Englishman every single step of the way.
