Paul Woolston signs new Man Utd deal, player delighted

Paul Woolston has put pen to paper on a new contract at Man United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building something at Manchester United. That much is obvious.

From first-team downwards, this club can be proud of the excellent players on the books. At U23 and youth level, I’d argue there’s nobody in this country with a better rapport at honing young ability.

Well, one player who is going to be spending another year at Old Trafford is Paul Woolston.

The goalkeeper has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams. The 22-year-old was all-smiles after signing his United contract, while admitting he was ‘over the moon’ to be given the opportunity to remain a Red DEvil for a further twelve months.

Woolston has been great for the U23s recently, though his first-team problem remains. The likes of David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton all stand in his way. Getting through that barrier is not going to be easy.

Perhaps United would be best-served by sending Woolston out on loan and seeing how he copes at the first-team level. Aged just 22, he’s still so young for a goalkeeper. Let’s not forget that at that age, Henderson was plying his trade for Sheffield United in the Championship. Perhaps Woolston can follow a similar path.

For now, this is a day where Woolston and his family can be delighted and proud of the young man’s accomplishments. His future is secure for another year and no doubt he’ll continue to improve as a footballer.

Congratulations on the new deal, Paul!
