According to various surveys and reports, the average age of a modern-day match goer is on the rise and it now stands at 41. Alongside this ticket prices are consistently rising, meaning the younger generations are finding it hard to afford going to matches. The Manchester United blog Republik of Mancunia are trying to tackle this.
Scott, the owner of The Republik of Mancunia has started an e-petition to trial a ‘teenage only’ section at Old Trafford, allowing the younger match goers to sit together and hopefully generate a better atmosphere at games. Whilst United have already reduced ticket prices for certain games for students, more can still be done to encourage the younger generation to attend Old Trafford. This would certainly be a start.
Manchester United could trial this section, similarly as they did to the trial of the singing section against Real Sociedad last year. We understand that not every fan will want to be moved from their existing seat, but as it’d be a trial it would only be for the occasional game. However generating a better atmosphere and helping our young fans in the process means it’d surely be worth it.
