Phil Jones was back out on the grass for the first time in 2021.
I’ll be honest, I genuinely forgot that Phil Jones was still at Manchester United Football Club. Injury after injury, the Englishman has seriously struggled with his fitness over the years – which is a crying shame given how good he looked during his early time at Old Trafford.
Sadly, it hasn’t really worked out as well as we’d have hoped for Jones in Manchester. Alas, let’s not forget that he’s a real person and nobody will regret it more than he will – so let’s not start firing abuse at him again just because he’s back in the mix.
United have been boosted by his return to training over the last 24 hours, following his serious injury which has kept him sidelined all year. Sadly, Jones hasn’t featured for United in 2021. However, with the Red Devils suffering from an injury/suspension crisis back there, stranger things have happened…

Alright, so after so long out, you’re going to imagine that it’s gotta’ take at least a month or so before he’s anywhere close to fitness.
At the very least, Solskjaer will likely want Jones to get a couple of U23s games under his belt before he’s even considered for first-team selection – unless there are no other senior players fit.
Personally, I’d doubt we’ll see him feature in any meaningful game this term. For Jones’ sake, I just hope he can stay fit, work hard and hopefully find a club who’ll take him and offer him the chance to play regular football in 2021/22.
Welcome back, Jonesy!
