Manchester United were believed to be winning the race to land SL Benfica starlet Renato Sanches this summer, but today, out of nowhere, Bayern Munich confirmed the transfer. This was a huge blow to United, who have been favourites to sign him for the last month or so.
The 18-year old has signed a five-year deal in Bavaria, with the transfer fee confirmed to be around £27million – which is about £13million cheaper than Manchester United have been quoted since the rumours began several weeks ago.
At the end of the day, you cannot really blame Sanches for choosing Bayern Munich over United at the moment. The football on display at Old Trafford is nothing short of dire, and he’ll be competing for several trophies year-in year-out in Germany.
The summer window hasn’t even officially opened yet, and i’m sure Louis van Gaal and Edward Woodward will have plenty of other transfer targets in mind, so its not time to panic just yet.
