Yesterday Manchester United finally confirmed that Victor Valdes has ended his Old Trafford nightmare, as he headed to Belgium to play for Standard Liege on loan. This is without doubt the best thing for all involved, and hopefully he can succeed there.
His time at Manchester United was filled with incident throughout, and he always looked destined to be nothing but a backup to David de Gea, which Valdes was understandably unhappy with.
After a spat with Louis van Gaal he was always destined for the exit door, after reportedly refusing to turn out for the Manchester United U21 side way back in March.
The club tried to move him on over the summer, but unfortunately they couldn’t, probably largely down to the high wages he commands, with Turkish side Besiktas pulling out at the last moment.
All the best at Standard Liege, Victor!
