The young Man United duo of Alvaro Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho have been presented with their Player of the Year awards.
Today was a day for reflection at the Manchester United academy level. It was Academy Presentation day, with the young Red Devils coming together to celebrate the achievements at various youth age groups.
Perhaps the best moment for United, at any level this season, came with our FA Youth Cup victory. It was a sensational run by our U18 side, who looked sublime all competition long.
We also cannot discount the growth our U23 side has made. There are several players in that category who are now knocking on the first-team door. Hannibal and Shola Shoretire lead the way in that regard.
There’s no official awards ceremony taking place this year due to the poor performances by United – so our two younger award winners with presented with their POTY awards during today’s Academy Presentation Day instead.
Both Alvaro Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho were pictured, all-smiles, with their respective awards at the U23 and U18 age groups.

This is just the start for both these young men. The pair have developed at a rapid rate over the last nine months and it has been a pleasure to watch them grow. Though there’s still some way to go.
For me, Fernandez is someone who should be given his chance in the not too distant future. Alex Telles blatantly isn’t good enough and the young U23 left-back looks ready to take that next step. No doubt we’ll see a heavy dose of the Spaniard on pre-season tour.
Moving onto Garnacho, his rise to fame has been rapid. An Argentina call-up definitely brightened the spotlight on the young winger, who scored two FA Youth Cup final goals to help deliver his side the trophy.
Garnacho is another who is knocking on the door of the first-team and again, I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do over the summer.
Congratulations, lads!
