Adidas are looking to unveil a green and gold Man United strip, that’ll be released in a couple of months.
Yes, you did indeed read that correctly. Manchester United’s current kit manufacturers, Adidas, are looking to release a green and gold jersey by December.
Now I know what you’re thinking, why? Well, the kit would be a throwback remake of the 1994 third kit and it’d only be available for fan purchase. The strip will not be worn by players during games. The scoop comes from @UtdDistrict, who also provide photos.
Much like United’s 1992 away kit remake from last season, this one is another pretty smart business strategy from Adidas. The question remains, will United sign off on it knowing all the connotations that those two colours stand for…
First and foremost, my initial reaction would be that this is incredibly smart of the Glazers. So many fans would buy this kit by means of protesting against our current owners – quickly forgetting that they’re actually directing funding everything they hate by buying it…
The Glazers would also be getting one over on those fan sellers who make knockoff strips, as supporters would much prefer to purchase official merchandise from big-time sellers for obvious reasons.
I do wonder what’ll happen to fans who rock up to the stadium wearing this, though. There has been problems in the past with getting green and gold scarves into the grounds. Does United make a new rule strictly for this shirt and this shirt alone? Or does green and gold now become acceptable to wear inside the Theatre of Dreams again?
One thing is for sure, it’s definitely going to be interesting to see how this one plays out.
