After the World Cup, Manchester United’s first-team players have been returning to first-team training in dribs and drabs depending on when their country got eliminated. Today was the turn of Belgium duo Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini, who were knocked out at the quarter-final stage.
Adnan Januzaj was one of few positives to come out of last season, and the young winger was a revelation from the minute he was named in the starting XI away at Sunderland.
Marouane Fellaini on the other hand.. Well, he struggled from minute one. I’m still not sure whether Louis van Gaal will even give Fellaini a chance to show him what he can do before offloading the defensive midfielder.
My only concern is that with the 3-5-2 formation, Van Gaal may not be able to offer Adnan Januzaj regular minutes. He won’t use him as a wingback because that position won’t suit him, and my guess is that Juan Mata has the #10 slot all sewn up barring injury. Hopefully Van Gaal can find a way to deploy the talented 19-year old.
