Picture: Alex Telles lands in Spain ahead of Sevilla medical

Alex Telles has arrived in Spain ahead of leaving Man United for the 2022/23 season on loan.

Manchester United Football Club have already undergone a pretty big overhaul already under Erik ten Hag – with several players leaving on free transfers and others being moved on.

If anything, the squad looks a little thin in some areas of the field. However, left-back isn’t one of them. After the arrival of Tyrell Malacia, it always felt like one left-sided defender would have to be sold on. That man? Alex Telles.

Rumours had been swirling suggesting the Brazilian had been made available. Now we know that’s 100% true.

The 93k-a-week United star (Spotrac), has landed in Spain for his Sevilla medical today. The 29-year-old will leave United for the 2022/23 season, joining the La Liga club on a season-long loan.

It’s Fabrizio Romano with the scoop and picture, claiming that Telles will also sign his contract.

As we understand, there’s no loan fee for Sevilla, though they will cover 100% of Telles’ wages, which are the best part of £100k-a-week.

Getting that sort of money off the books for a full season is smart, though Telles still has two more years on his contract upon his return next summer. Moving away from the Brazil international permanently may prove to be a little problematic…

I think Telles always faced an uphill battle here in Manchester. When he joined, Luke Shaw was in the form of his life, while consistent minutes were always going to be a struggle. Obviously, that never happened and Ten Hag has now deemed him surplus to requirements.

I hope that this move to Sevilla allows Telles to play regularly and get back to his best.
