Manchester United’s 2018/19 campaign has been a forgettable one. Both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (so far) have struggled.
It goes to show how deep-rooted the issues at Old Trafford are, but in amongst all the sadness and failure, we have some good news to report.
The Red Devils have always been great when it comes to their efforts within the community, and for his individual work, Ander Herrera has been named the PFA Community Champion for the current season.
For all Herrera’s on-field excellence, this is something that the Basque midfielder will take particular pride in. From day one, the 29-year-old has always held an excellent rapport with the fans due to his willingness to learn about United’s rich history and traditions, while always being available to give back to the fans that, in a sense, pay his wages.
It’s brilliant yet a shame in equal measure because, in all likelihood, Herrera will be heading to Paris Saint-Germain on a free this summer. Not only are we losing one of very few players who care about the crest on his chest, but we’re losing an even better person. To be brutally honest, this sums up United’s season in a nutshell.
Congratulations, Ander! Richly deserved.
