Manchester United Football Club had a pretty good month of January, putting that FA Cup defeat to one side. Jose Mourinho’s men ensured safe progression into the next round of the Europa League, whilst finally moving up from sixth place in the Premier League table.
Our month ended with a pretty convincing 3-1 victory away at Middlesbrough. The Red Devils were in control for the most part, with goals from Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini putting us in control. However, a late strike from ‘Boro gave them a glimmer of hope towards the end, but Antonio Valencia ended that as he capitalised on an error from Victor Valdes.
The goal epitomised everything positive about the man we call ‘Tony V’, and now, the Ecuadorian has been rewarded with some excellent performances in March, by being handed Manchester United’s Player of the Month award.

It really is brilliant to see Valencia handed this trophy, and he more than deserves it. His transformation from a right-sided midfielder to a full-back has been pretty seamless – as if he was born for that role all along.
In my humble opinion, Valencia has been our best, most consistent player for the season. At this point in time, he’d be my vote for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
