Picture: Brilliant Man United trio named in BBC’s Team of the Week

It feels great to have Premier League football back. Manchester United opened their campaign in style, in a game that could have been a potential stumbling block. The visitors, West Ham United, succumbed to the pressure as Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils stuck four past them.

From minute one, Manchester United were on the front foot as they attacked The Hammers continuously. There were a whole host of brilliant individual displays, and BBC’s Garth Crooks has picked a trio of Reds in his first Team of the Week.

Have a look at BBC’s Team of the Week in full here:

Who’d have thought it, eh? At the heart of the defence is none other than Phil Jones. Nobody has ever knocked the talent this lad has, it’s just his consistency to get himself fit and keep playing. Yesterday was the perfect start to the season for the Englishman – as he put in a performance of supreme quality. That gives Mourinho another solid option, providing he can remain healthy.

Then, you move into the midfield and onto my man of the match; Nemanja Matic. I just struggle to believe how and why Chelsea let him move to a direct rival. It could well cost them the Premier League title if his debut was anything to go by. The 29-year-old was everywhere, breaking up the play, winning tackles and even getting United moving in the right direction again.

Last, but by no means least is Romelu Lukaku. The striker scored two goals as we saw a glimpse of that killer instinct that he has. Last season, these were the types of matches that we’d end up drawing due to a lack of cutting edge. However, it doesn’t look as though that is going to be as big of an issue this term.
