Picture: Chris Smalling named Manchester United’s Players Player of the Year

Manchester United’s Player of the Year Awards show took place last night, with plenty of trophies given out to the top performers over the 2015/16 campaign. David de Gea was the big winner on the night, but Chris Smalling certainly deserved this one.

The 26-year old centre-back was voted Players Player of the Year, which is great testament to how far he has come since that horrific red card he picked up against City eighteen months ago.

To be named Manchester United’s best player by you’re colleagues at the club will be a huge morale boost for Smalling. These professionals know exactly what they are talking about, and for Smalling to be given that honour is brilliant for him.

Smalling, De Gea and Anthony Martial are arguably the only players who have played anywhere near to their full potential on a consistent basis this season. To see them all pick up awards on the night is fitting, and hopefully they can all improve for next season.
