Manchester United fans around the world rejoice! This is not a drill. David de Gea has been named in the FIFPro World XI for the first time.
The team was announced last night, and as you can see from the graphic below, it’s a star-studded line-up filled with world-class players.
It’s just superb to see our #1 finally get the recognition his sheer brilliance deserves. For years, we’ve harped on about just how brilliant he is in between the sticks. Now, the wider footballing world is beginning to believe.
? ALERT ? @FIFPro & @FIFAcom proudly present the #World11 of 2018! ? ?

I do have one small criticism about the awards night, though. De Gea was named in the FIFPro World XI, while Thibaut Courtois scooped the award for Best Goalkeeper. I’m not quite sure of the logic there, but I can guarantee that Courtois wouldn’t have gotten a look-in if he were still a Chelsea player.
Anyway, that’s a debate for another day entirely. Right now, I’m just delighted for big Dave. The next order of business is to get him tied down to a new contract at United. Give him whatever weekly wage he wants, he deserves to be the highest paid player at this club, and if that’s what it’ll take to keep him here then so be it.
