Manchester United returned to winning ways on Wednesday evening, beating AFC Bournemouth 2-0 away from home.
It was a significant game for the Red Devils as they look to head into the FA Cup semi-final with some momentum under their belts.
However, it was an extremely special match for one individual particular. David de Gea was handed the captain’s armband for the first time in his Old Trafford career.
Today, the Spaniard took to social media to express his pride at being named captain, and what a brilliant moment it was for the former Atletico Madrid player.

Captaining a club is a huge accomplishment, but being given the armband for a side with the stature that Manchester United has is just sensational.
This is a player who more than deserves it, though. He’s worked wonders for this club ever since he walked through the door, which is shown by the fact that De Gea has been named in five PFA Premier League Team of the Year’s in seven seasons.
Who knows, this could be a play from the club to try and persuade him to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams, and we’d all be delighted if that’s the case.
