Diogo Dalot is the sole Man United star named in WhoScored’s latest Team of the Week following the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Credit where it’s due, Manchester United have been playing better recently, though there’s still much work ahead for Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman has his side playing better football in 2024. It’s no coincidence it falls directly in line with senior player’s returning from injury.

However, one man who has taken me by surprise is Diogo Dalot. The man from Portugal excelled against West Ham a week or so ago. He’d back that up with another equally impressive display against Aston Villa.

It was his whipped-in cross that allowed Scott McTominay to score that thumping header, which would prove to be the winning goal.

As a result, Dalot became the one United star named in WhoScored’s statistical Team of the Week. His 8.34 rating means the Portugal right-back was the best defender during gameweek 24, which is something that deserves huge praise.

Dalot is flourishing nicely. I’ll be the first to admit I’d given up hope on the ex-Porto man, after several years of mediocrity. However, given a real run in the side, we’re starting to see his quality shine through.

I’ve always been an Aaron Wan-Bissaka man, though Ten Hag has always leant in Dalot’s direction. While he has been good since the turn of the year, he has to keep up these performance levels for the remainder of the season to fully win my trust back.

For what it’s worth, I still think there’s every chance that the club bring in another right-sided defender during the upcoming summer transfer window, but a lot can happen between now and then.
