Picture: Luke Shaw wins Man United’s Players’ Player of the Year award

It goes without saying, the 2018/19 campaign has been Luke Shaw’s best in Manchester United colours.

After suffering serious injury a few years ago, it always felt like the left-back was going to come up short in his quest to nail down that starting berth at Old Trafford.

A couple of surgeries and a few managers later, Shaw is finally starting to look like the player we spent big money on when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

Last night, the 23-year-old was named United’s Players’ Player of the Year winner, and what a super-proud feeling that must be given everything Shaw has been through.

I always consider the Players’ POTY award as the most important one. This is the trophy voted for by your peers, the people who play the game and the guys who you share the dressing room with. To get their seal of approval must feel extremely rewarding.

Mentally, Shaw is so tough. To be called out by Mourinho last season, for then to win his trust and come back by playing 40 games in the following campaign is something deserves immense credit.

The world is his oyster and although he’ll have to improve to ensure that he remains in control of that left-back slot, this definitely is a step in the right direction.

Congratulations, Luke!
