Picture: Man United attacker Mason Greenwood wearing number 26 in pre-season

In fits and spurts, Manchester United players are slowly getting back to the AON Training Complex to start their pre-season training.

With the tour now just one day away, the excitement starts to build. In exactly seven days time, the Red Devils take on Perth Glory in their first game over in Australia.

Anyway, today was the first time we’ve seen Mason Greenwood in pre-season training, and credit to the eagle-eyed guys over at @UtdReport, who’ve noticed that the 17-year-old was actually wearing a new number. As you can just about see on his shorts, the youngster was wearing the #26.

Last season, his official squad number was 54, and I always find it interesting when young players change their number to a lower one – as it often means that they’re further up in the manager’s plans.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Greenwood his first start on the final day of the season. He was the best player on the pitch wearing Red that day and I’d be shocked if he doesn’t go on pre-season tour.

If the teenager impresses in these friendly matches, I feel confident in stating that Greenwood will get minutes aplenty in the 19/20 campaign. Solskjaer is looking to completely rebuild, and what better way to do that than trusting in United’s academy products?
