Manchester United fans have unveiled a new anti-Glazer banner ahead of our game vs Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester United Football Club are in a bit of a weird place off the field. Edward Woodward is resigning, while these European Super League plans have some fans feeling pretty disheartened.
The Old Trafford faithful have always been vocal about how much they detest the Glazer family, though that movement took a backwards step over the last half-decade or so. Now, the furore amongst the terraces is higher than ever.
A protest has been planned for this weekend ahead of the huge home game against Liverpool, with some fans unveiling a new ’50+1′ banner on Twitter – presumably we’ll see this surface at the aforementioned protest.
Check out the banner here:
What is ’50+1′?
To put it simply, it’s an ownership model used by all clubs in the German Bundesliga, where fans own the majority share in the business, meaning they have a say in decisions and everything else that goes on behind the scenes.
There’s also a petition doing the rounds on social media right now, which is pretty close to being discussed in government if 15,000 more signatures are received.
This is a plan that would make an awful lot of change to the footballing landscape in this country – but for the better. I’m all for this if we can somehow pull it off, though you can get your bottom dollar that these US owners will push back hard on any attempts at forcing them out.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the protests go this weekend, for what has been a second consecutive weekend of United fans making their voices heard.
Fair play, lads!
