The Man United home and away dugouts have been permanently switched around.
Manchester United’s pre-season preparations are almost complete. Two friendly games remain. Both will take place this weekend.
The first in Oslo. A stronger squad is expected to take on Atletico Madrid. Then on Sunday, Erik ten Hag’s will be welcomed by the Old Trafford crowd for the first time this season, when Rayo Vallecano come to town.
Anyway, ahead of the game, United have confirmed they’ll be one noticeable difference at the Theatre of Dreams. The home dugout has been permanently switched with the away one following a request made by Ten Hag.
United manager, staff and substitutes will now be sat in the seats to the west of the halfway line, with Ten Hag approving the move when he visited the stadium back in May.
So why switch?
Well, the new United bench is now closer to the Stretford End, which is seen as the heartbeat of Old Trafford on a matchday. It also align the dugouts with the halves of the pitch in which the home and away teams warm up before the game.
It’ll be pretty weird to see the change in action this Sunday, as we’ve become so accustomed to seeing United sit on the other half of the dugout for so many years. However, it does feel like a smart decision.
It’s the little changes like this, when added together, can build up and prove to be a real momentum shift in United’s direction. This mindset is why I really do believe Ten Hag is going to be a big success at United.
Obviously, he needs help from the powers that be up above, in regards to both signings and the club making business decisions that help us on the pitch, rather than loading their pockets.
