Manchester United’s defensive problems have been clear for all to see over the last few games, as Louis van Gaal’s men have shipped five goals without reply since the Manchester derby. A major reason for that has been the absence of Michael Carrick, but a certain centre-back also played his part, too.
Phil Jones has divided the Old Trafford crowd like no other recently, and for me he has been crucial in our defensive stability during the vital parts of the season.
Tonight he returned to action after a few weeks out injured since the derby, and what a return he made, too.
Within minutes he made an impact for the U21s, playing a wonderful ball through to Ashley Fletcher who duly dispatched it with a superb finish.
Hopefully he is fit enough to play against Crystal Palace this weekend in the place of Paddy McNair, who’s inexperience certainly shown against Everton in particular.
Should Jones start on Saturday? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.
