Manchester United put in another winning performance against Stoke City on a chilly Tuesday evening at Old Trafford earlier in the week, and one of the stand out performers from that game was Ashley Young. The much-maligned winger has been trying his hand at a new role over the past few games – and its going rather well.
The 29-year old has been deployed as a wing-back, and he seems to be enjoying his football again. He always was more of a defensive winger than most, but this new position seems to have given him a new lease of life.
It allows a more talented attacker can do their thing in front of him, with Ashley Young coming in and overlapping if needs be, which seems to be a more favourable role in terms of an attacking outlet. With Luke Shaw injured, and Marcos Rojo doing very well at centre-back, it seems foolish to change whats working at the moment, so lets hope Youngy can keep it up for the foreseeable future!
