Manchester United overcame all odds to defeat Manchester City on derby day, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2, as Jose Mourinho’s boys stopped Pep Guardiola’s title celebrations.
For their performances, three players have earned a spot in Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week, and it was nice to see so many Red Devils included, particularly after such a huge game where the stakes were high.
It comes as no surprise that Paul Pogba was involved. The Frenchman was absolutely outstanding in the second 45, making insanely good runs into the box, while capitalising on two chances that came his way.
Secondly, we have Chris Smalling. This one is a rather dubious pick, in my opinion, the Englishman had a poor first-half, and was at fault for Vincent Kompany’s opener. Sure, he made up for it with the winning goal, but was he amongst the best centre-backs in the country this weekend? It’s unlikely.
Crooks then went to include Ashley Young. It’s a choice that really left me scratching my head as he could have easily given away two penalties. Sure, he improved as the game went on but still…
I’d also make a case for both Alexis Sanchez and David de Gea; both of whom were instrumental in the victory.
