Manchester United Football Club made it into the Europa League final. Jose Mourinho’s men made hard work of it, but in the end, they made it to the Stockholm showpiece and that is all that matters.
WhoScored have released their Europa League Team of the Week, and it includes three Red Devils, who played their hearts out for the cause. Every one of these guys deserves their place in the line-up, and they were by far our best performers on the night.
First up, we have Sergio Romero. For the most part, he has played backup to David de Gea, but Mourinho came in and made the Argentine his Europa League first-choice. On the whole, he did brilliantly. Romero made some smart saves and commanded his area well, he comes in with a 7.2 rating.
Onto the midfield we go, then, and next up is Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Although he didn’t have a direct impact on the score, you have to say that the Armenia international looked a threat. He glided past his marker on plenty of occasions and he genuinely looked like our best goal threat.
Finally, Marouane Fellaini’s performance was rewarded. The much-maligned Belgian scored the goal that ended up being the tie-winner. He used his weight excellently to control the midfield battle, and when things got tough he won his fair share of headers whilst our backs were against the wall.
