Well, Manchester United Football Club are into the last eight of the Europa League, thanks to a 1-0 victory at home to Russian side Rostov yesterday. Jose Mourinho’s men were not at their best, but they did manage to get the job done and dusted.
The latter stages of the competition will begin after the international break, and before then, three reds have been selected in UEFA’s Europa League Team of the Week for their performances.
First up, we have David de Gea’s backup goalkeeper; Sergio Romero. The Argentinian has been so reliable every time he has been called upon since making the move to the Theatre of Dreams, and I simply cannot fault him. Last night was no different, and he made some out of this world saves to preserve Manchester United’s lead. Particularly that last-minute header he kept out.
Next in line, we have Antonio Valencia, who is rapidly turning into one of the best right-backs in world football. He has all the attributes to do that job brilliantly, and once again, he showed his capabilities last night.
The final red included is Juan Mata. The Spaniard was the goalscorer on the night as he tapped in from close range. Before he struck, Mata played some outrageously good balls into both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but sadly they couldn’t be converted.
