Manchester United eventually fell to a 1-0 defeat away to bitter rivals Manchester City this afternoon, but the real surprise is the fact that their starting XI named was the most expensive line-up in Premier League history. In total, the line-up cost the club a huge £241million – an average of £22million per player.
The most expensive player in the line-up is newly acquired Angel Di Maria who cost almost £60million. Other huge expenses include £30million man Wayne Rooney, £27million Luke Shaw and £27.5million Marouane Fellaini. Adnan Januzaj came in on a free, meaning he is the cheapest player in the line-up.
