Marcus Rashford’s mural in Withington was defaced, but since then, the community has come together.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford would be amongst the England team who’d lose a European Championship final in heartbreaking fashion. Sadly, our young superstar would miss his penalty, too.
Rashford, who has been the shining light in England over the last twelve months or so, was subjected to some more horrendous racial abuse following his spot-kick miss. Then, to top it all off, some absolute cretins decided to deface his mural over in Withington.
It’s a cruel reminder of what a grim world we live in sometimes. However, what followed definitely restores faith in humanity – providing a timely reminder that there’s far more good in this world than evil.
The mural would be filled with messages of love and support after the horrendous defacing. England flags, words of positivity and overall inspirational stuff. I don’t mind admitting it brought a tear to my eye.
Yes, Rashford did miss his penalty. Nobody will be feeling the hurt from that more than the man himself. However, these things happen in football. Sadly, that’s just the way it goes sometimes. One kick will never define any individual, none more so than Rashford who has done so much for our local communities.
He’s a young man with a heart of gold. We need to protect him at all costs and nobody deserves this abuse less than Rashford.
To the idiots; we don’t want you associated with our beautiful game. Just remember, karma is real and what goes around comes around.
To the many more who flocked to the mural to spread positivity; thank you. You’re the true heroes of our country and it’s great to see everyone come together at this sad time.
Keep your head up, Marcus. We’re behind you every single step of the way.
