Picture: Odion Ighalo wearing Man United colours for first time

Manchester United’s surprise deadline day move for Odion Ighalo certainly left us Red Devils fans feeling confused and underwhelmed.

However, needs-must. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply couldn’t go into the business end of the season with just Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as his fit strikers. He had to do something.

In the end, United ended up luring Ighalo in from Shanghai Shenhua on a short-term, little-risk deal. With Premier League football already on his from his time at Watford, while aged 30 and being experienced, the Red Devils could do far worse.

Anyway today, after much anticipation, the first photos of Odion Ighalo wearing Man United colours for the first-time were unveiled by the official club Twitter account. All-smiles, the Nigerian striker looks pretty happy to be joining his boyhood club.

The Red Devils’ new #25 definitely brings a different dimension to the table which can only be viewed as a positive. This team doesn’t have that player who’ll stay central and hold up the play with his back to goal.

Ighalo is a natural finisher, too. His goals record for both club and country is pretty special, and I’d doubt that he’s ever had the quality around him that he’ll have at Old Trafford.

I stand by my thought that Ighalo will score at least one massively important goal for the 20-time Premier League champions before now and the season’s end. Be it in the Europa League or in the Manchester derby, I just think he’ll make a bigger impact that people think…
