Manchester United’s chances at glory in the FA Cup are the best they’ve been over the last decade, with Louis van Gaal given perhaps the best opportunity to win his first piece of silverware in his debut season. He’ll be hoping his side can progress against a potentially tricky Preston side on Monday night.
After tough games against both Yeovil and Cambridge United, Van Gaal will be more than aware about the dangers lower league opposition can possess, and with that in mind I’d expect a strong team selection from the Dutchman.
Wayne Rooney will hopefully be utilised as a striker alongside James Wilson, with Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini coming into the midfield. Ashley Young could make a long-awaited return after his hamstring problem, with Antonio Valencia on the right-hand side.
The back four is relatively inexperienced, but they should have more than enough ability to keep Preston at bay. There could also be a debut for Victor Valdes.
