Manchester United head to Anfield for the biggest game of the season so far. A spot in the top four is potentially at stake, and if United lose the game this weekend they’ll find themselves out of the Champions League spots for the first time in a while.
That in mind, Van Gaal will probably go defensive for this one, and try to hit Liverpool on the counter attack.
We could see the return of the 5-3-2 formation, meaning a few notable absentees could be likely.
A back five including Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia as wing-backs will be supported by a midfield trio of Daley Blind, Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera.
Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao, who is approaching the proverbial ‘last chance saloon’ should start if Van Gaal adopts this formation.
