Wayne Rooney was certainly the only player who came out of Sunday’s demolition derby with any credit, which is quite ironic for a player who’s future is still up in the air. The 27-year old took to Facebook to express his disappointment at the result, but goes on to say how facing Liverpool on Wednesday is the perfect game to bounce back in.
Rooney became the all-time top scorer in Manchester derbies after scoring an excellent free-kick late on, but as the player himself said afterwards, it doesn’t mean an awful lot right now.
Many players need a rest after the tough start we’ve had, and David Moyes must utilise his squad in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. Players like Januzaj, Zaha and Kagawa will all be hoping to get their chances to impress, and if they do, they must grasp it with both hands and put in some top performances.
