What a week it has been for Tahith Chong! After coming on as a second-half substitute against Huddersfield at the weekend, Manchester United’s fluffy-haired Dutchman has been named the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year.
The official site confirmed that the 19-year-old had scooped the award, following up on his Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year trophy that he won last term.
Competition to win the Reserve Team POTY trophy was tough, as Chong beat out both Angel Gomes and James Garner to scoop the honour. In my opinion, all three have the potential to become hugely important players at Old Trafford.
As you can see from the photo below, Chong looked delighted to get the recognition his reserve team exploits have deserved and hopefully, this is just the start for the young man.
Although all the attention is on Greenwood at the moment, many tend to forget that Chong was probably the most highly thought of academy prospect a year or two ago.
In fact, he’s the one we’ve seen more often within the first-team since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge and that’s probably because he’s two years Greenwood’s senior. That experience cannot be understated.
I’m thinking that Chong could well be involved on the final day against Cardiff City, while the Dutchman looks a shoe-in to be heading out on pre-season tour over the summer.
