Manchester United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford tomorrow, in a game which the Red Devils will be hoping to scoop all three points in.
The fans are hoping that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reliance on youth continues when the serious stuff kicks off – as they all were mightily impressive during United’s pre-season tour.
Well, it’s nice to see the boys aren’t ready to forget where they came from – with several of them on looking at United’s U18s were in action against Sunderland this morning.
Amongst those pictured by an eagle-eyed fan were Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and Ethan Laird – all of whom have made the jump up from U18s to U23s over the last twelve months.
For these guys it’s now about making the breakthrough a permanent one. Chong and Gomes, in particular, have been on the first-team fringes for around twelve months now. However, with Solskjaer trimming the squad since his arrival at Old Trafford, the openings could well be there.
These lads did play in the U23s fixture back on Tuesday, so I wouldn’t rule them completely out of a spot in the squad for tomorrow’s match. One young man who’ll definitely make the bench at least is Mason Greenwood – as he didn’t feature at all for the U23s.
