Pictures: Odion Ighalo in Manchester, spotted at Lowry Hotel

On deadline day, the big surprise was Manchester United’s move for Odion Ighalo. Following injury to Marcus Rashford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply had no choice but to make some sort of a move.

In the end, the 20-time Premier League champions settled on Ighalo – who has Premier League experience under his belt following playing days at Watford.

It goes without saying that fans were left underwhelmed, but it’s notoriously difficult to buy in the January transfer window, and the risk-reward of this Ighalo loan move definitely feels worth it.

Personally, I’ve always felt like love, hard-work and desire can often make up for talent. Ighalo is a United fan born and bred and I don’t doubt that he’ll give everything he has whenever he takes to the field.

Anyway today, the first photos of Ighalo in Manchester, all-smiles at the Lowry Hotel came to light. The snaps courtesy of the Daily Express/Zenpix Ltd for the snaps.

As you can see from the photos, Ighalo looks absolutely delighted. Imagine how crazy it must be to go to sleep a Shanghai Shenhua player, but wake up a Red Devil?

What’s mental is that this move came completely out of left-field and Ighalo would have been as surprised as anyone. Now aged 30, he has a real chance to prove to the world his qualities and I actually think he’ll come up big for us at some point this season.

We’ve been lacking that out-and-out goal-getter who’ll stay central and offer himself as an outlet. Time-and-time again we’ve become frustrated with Anthony Martial coming deep to collect the ball and leaving the opposing penalty box completely empty. Now, Solskjaer has a different dimension, giving the Baby Faced Assassin more flexibility as we enter into the business end of the season.

I genuinely believe Ighalo will surprise a few people and leave his mark on Manchester United between now and the season’s end.

Welcome, Odion!
