Pictures: Robin van Persie wearing Man United shinpads at Kompany testimonial

Manchester United had several players partaking in Vincent Kompany’s testimonial at The Etihad yesterday. Heck, it’s easy to see why as several of our stars have gone toe-to-toe with City and Kompany for the best part of a decade.

Perhaps the one who’ll they lament most is Robin van Persie. After all, it was his debut season at Old Trafford which sent a real message to the other half of Manchester in 2012/13, with the Dutchman delivering title #20 – almost single-handedly at times.

Van Persie was on the pitch last night, and he didn’t look out of place as he scored a cracking goal to give the Premier League legends side a 2-1 lead. One thing he’ll never lose is his deadly finishing – even at aged 36.

Anyway, our reagle-eyed friends over at @utdxtra spotted Van Persie donning United gear, namely his shinpads. If you look closely (particularly at that last photo), you can see the Reds crest.

Whether that’s because he’s back in Manchester, or the fact that it was at Old Trafford where he was happiest remains to be seen. Either way, it’s class to see him still donning United colours under whatever circumstance.

It was pure class seeing Van Persie back in action last night. Oh, what could have been if he’d made the move up North sooner, eh?
