Pictures: The best moments from Michael Carrick’s testimonial at Old Trafford

Today, the Theatre of Dreams paid their respects to one of the most underrated footballers in the world. Michael Carrick celebrated his ten-plus year stint as a Manchester United player in a testimonial game at Old Trafford this Sunday.

An incredible turnout of close to 70,000 fans were in attendance to watch Manchester United ’08 take on Michael Carrick’s all-stars in an excellent game to watch.

It finished 2-2, with goals coming from Nemanja Vidic, Robbie Keane, Gaizka Mendieta and finally, the man himself Carrick with a majestic strike that clipped off the post and nestled into Shay Given’s net.

For us United fans, it was a moment to be savoured. We saw some brilliant players from the years gone by back ‘home’. Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Patrice Evra, Dimitar Berbatov and many more turned out – all of whom acquitted themselves wonderfully well.

For me though, the best part about it was seeing Sir Alex Ferguson back in the Old Trafford dugout. This is the man who delivered us so many trophies and is widely recognised as the best in the business.

We’ve compiled some of the best photos from the game all in one place for you to have a look at.
