Pictures: Varane says goodbyes to Madrid pals before Man Utd move

Raphael Varane is nudging ever closer to sealing his transfer to Man Utd.

Manchester United’s summer transfer window is shaping up nicely. Jadon Sancho is a confirmed Red Devil, while a move for Raphael Varane is all-but secured.

These are two players who represent great upgrades in real positions of need for the Old Trafford club. Whether that means we’re now ready to mount a genuine title challenge remains to be seen – but you’d like to think so.

Well, Varane himself is slowly but surely edging towards making his United move an official one. Today, it all must have felt very real for the Frenchman – as he waved his goodbyes to his now ex-teammates in the Spanish capital.

Check out the photos of Varane saying his goodbyes here:

Now, the 28-year-old will be looking to move to Manchester as quickly as possible. The sooner he flies in, the sooner his five-day isolation period can get done before he can begin to work on the training field with his new teammates.

I don’t doubt that Varane is already putting in the effort in individual sessions right now, as he looks to hit the ground running with his new club.

Hopefully, Varane will get to play some part in the game against Everton next week – which will be our last pre-season fixture before the serious stuff starts a week later. This will at least give him some sort of a feel for what the English game is like, against a top side too.

Then it’s about building up the match fitness, while starting to work on a rapport with his new centre-back partner, Harry Maguire. On paper, it looks like a match made in heaven. Let’s hope it can play out that way!
