Player Ratings: Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

David de Gea – Gets better with each game. He made a number of excellent saves, with the best being a 1v1 stop against Jack Wilshere. 8/10

Antonio Valencia – Ran the channel all-game long and played a vital part in United’s opener. On the whole did well. 7/10

Paddy McNair – McNair’s 100% win ratio continues, and the experience of playing in an atmosphere like the Emirates will do him wonders. Superb performance. 7/10

Chris Smalling – Commanded a very young defence excellently. Won a lot of important tackles and put his body on the line. Very well played. 8/10

Tyler Blackett – Struggled with the pace of Oxlade-Chamberlain, but made some crucial clearances and won some very important headers. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Lasted under 20 minutes after turning his ankle. Not enough time to mark.

Marouane Fellaini – Won the ball time and time again, but a short back pass he played almost cost his team dear. Average. 5/10

Michael Carrick – Great to see Carrick back in action. He did what he does best – passed the ball intelligently. Also made an excellent block late on. 7/10

Angel di Maria – Made a blistering run in the first half which could’ve led to a goal. Grabbed an assist for Rooney’s strike late on and should’ve had one of his won after going one-on-one with the sub keeper. 6/10

Wayne Rooney – Took his goal superbly. He looked at the heart of a classic United counter attacking team, and it was great to see his passion. Excellent display. 8/10

Robin van Persie – Very poor from the Dutchman. He struggled to get into the game at all and had just 12 touches [3 of which were corners]. 3/10

Subs:

Ashley Young – Did extremely well at left wing-back. Played a key role in United’s opener. 7/10

James Wilson – Great cameo from the young striker with bags full of energy and potential. Pushing for a start next week. 6/10

Darren Fletcher – Sured things up. Not enough time to mark.
