David de Gea – Made some important saves which kept united in the game for about an hour. Couldn’t do anything about the goals. 7/10
Diogo Dalot – Not great positioning for the Newcastle United opener. Was largely pegged back by Saint-Maximin. 4/10
Raphael Varane – Did his job for the most part. Defended well against a tough Newcastle attack. 5/10
Lisandro Martinez – Made some important interceptions and tackles. He was good enough. 5/10
Luke Shaw – Struggle down his side when defending. Like his opposite side, was pushed back. 3/10
Scott McTominay – His position was a weird one. Was neither offensive nor defensive and he was sort of in between. 4/10
Marcel Sabitzer – Drifted in and out of the game. Had some decent opportunities to get forward but couldn’t take them. 4/10
Bruno Fernandes – Played some good balls forward and made some decent runs, but was out of the game for many long stretches. 4/10
Antony – Probably united’s best attacker in this one. Had a couple of half-chances when running at Burn, but that was about it. 5/10
Marcus Rashford – Wasn’t involved. Trippier dealt with him well. His quietest game in ages. Perhaps he’s still dealing with his knock? 3/10
Wout Weghorst – Poor. Couldn’t get into the game at all. Struggled to hold the ball up and his passing was pretty dismal. 2/10
Subs:
Anthony Martial – Looked more threatening than Weghorst.
Jadon Sancho – Didn’t really get involved.
Fred – Not enough time to mark.
Victor Lindelof – Not enough time to mark.
Facundo Pellistri – Not enough time to mark.
