Player Ratings: Aston Villa 0-1 Manchester United

Sergio Romero – Once again he didn’t put a foot wrong despite being largely untested. 6/10

Matteo Darmian – Got stuck in extremely well and won plenty of tackles. Fortunate not to concede a penalty. 6/10

Chris Smalling – Led from the back once again. Seems to be flourishing in a regular starting role. 7/10

Daley Blind – Largely untested but kept his composure and kept the ball moving nicely. 7/10

Luke Shaw – Bombed forward often and got stuck in. Nice to see him feature once again. 6/10

Michael Carrick – Kept it simple and kept United ticking. 6/10

Morgan Schneiderlin – Made some key tackles and kept United on the front foot. Perhaps should have done better with an early chance. 8/10 Man of the Match.

Juan Mata – Played a delightful ball for Januzaj’s opener. Justified his place in the side. 7/10

Adnan Januzaj – Made the most of an opportunity given to him by Louis van Gaal. Took his goal wonderfully. 7/10

Memphis Depay – Looked bright but missed a glorious chance when one-on-one with Guzan. 6/10

Wayne Rooney – Had a poor evening. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions and his touch was woeful. 3/10

Subs:

Ander Herrera – Ran around and kept himself busy.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Came on and controlled the middle of the park.

Ashley Young – Not enough time to mark.
