Player Ratings: Aston Villa 0-3 United

United travelled to Villa Park after picking up 2 points from the last 12, languishing in 9th. The boys left with a 3-0 victory and all 3 points, as well as a good performance all round. Here’s how the players did today.

David de Gea: Saved everything that came his way. Booked early in the second half for an altercation with Agbonlahor. 7/10

Rafael: Superb at right back, got forward at every opportunity and linked well with Valencia. Put the cross in for the opening goal. 8/10

Phil Jones: Back in his best position which was a surprise after his excellent performances in midfield of late, but did well. Solid. 6/10

Jonny Evans: Solid game alongside Jones. Rarely troubled. 6/10

Patrice Evra: Started a bit sloppily, but improved. Most of Uniteds play was down the right though so not his liveliest game. 6/10

Antonio Valencia: Ran riot down the right. Involved in most attacks and linked well with Rafael, Rooney and Welbeck in particular. 9/10

Tom Cleverley: Continued in the same manner as he finished against Shakhtar. A lively game and kept the ball moving, as well as breaking up play. Scored with a composed finish 6 minutes into the second half. 8/10

Ryan Giggs: Had a good composed outing in midfield. 6/10

Adnan Januzaj: Positive and effective game from the young Belgian. Committed men and could have scored the 2 goals that Welbeck scored. Replaced by Ashley Young. 7/10

Wayne Rooney:
Playing in his best position, just behind the striker, had a good game. Dropped deep to help Cleverley and Giggs in midfield, which was key to the way we played today. Played some wonderful passes that Paul Scholes would have been proud of as well as playing Cleverley in for his goal. Replaced late on by Zaha with the game won. 8/10

Danny Welbeck:
Rare start as a striker and certainly filled the gap left by Robin van Persie’s injury. 2 goals within 3 minutes of each other and an energetic performance where he lead the line well. 9/10

Ashley Young: Brought on to play on the left, moved centrally when Rooney was substituted. 6/10

Darren Fletcher: Returned for the first time in almost a year. Settled straight into the game. Almost scored with a header from a corner. Great to have him back. Won’t expect too much too soon though. 6/10

Wilfred Zaha: Second appearance in a week for the youngster replacing Rooney late on. Looked bright and eager to take on his man. 6/10
