Player Ratings: Chelsa vs United (FA Cup Replay)

After a disappointing loss and performance, United’s only trophy this season will be the most important: The Premier League crown. Demba Ba scored the only goal of the game with an annoyingly magical piece finishing after a superb pass from Juan Mata. United didn’t turn up on the day, and unfortunately this tie was lost at Old Trafford 3 weeks ago.

Danny Welbeck was probably our best player in this one, his willingness to run with the ball and regularly beat his man was a particular highlight, and at the young age of 22 he has so much more developing to do.

The next time we take to the field is the Manchester Derby, Wayne Rooney may miss out due to a niggling groin injury, and its also a similar story for Rafael who picked up an injury in the league game against Sunderland.

Player Ratings:

David de Gea – Looked composed and commanded his box well, he couldn’t do anything about the goal. 7/10

Antonio Valencia – Played out of position but ironically had one of his better games this season, he’s looking like his form is coming back. 7/10

Chris Smalling – Looked solid alongside Rio, he played well and won some important headers. 6/10

Rio Ferdinand – Ever present in the heart of our defence, he was beaten by a piece of genius from Ba and couldn’t do anything about it. 6/10

Patrice Evra – Defended well but struggled to get forward as much as he’d like. Went missing at times. 5/10

Nani – Every time he touched the ball for the first half-hour he gave it away. Got slightly better but nowhere near his high standards. 5/10

Michael Carrick – As you’d expect he kept his calm and kept the ball moving, he didn’t really have any targets going forward though. 6/10

Phil Jones – Played well. He stopped Mata and Hazard controlling the midfield. He just needs a good spell without injury. 6/10

Tom Cleverley – Offered little out wide as he has no natural width. 5/10

Danny Welbeck – Our man of the match until substituted. Worked tirelessly and wasn’t afraid to take Chelsea on. Also fired in a great ball for Chicho’s headed chance. 7/10

Javier Hernandez – Didn’t do an awful lot. Had two chances and was unlucky not to bury either of them. 6/10

Subs:

Robin van Persie – Missed a golden opportunity from about 7 yards out. Clearly tired and could do with a fortnight off. 6/10

Ryan Giggs – Didn’t have enough possession to make an impact. Not enough time to mark.

Ashley Young – Looked lively when he came on, arguably should’ve started. Not enough time to mark.
