Player Ratings: Chelsea 3-1 United

Manchester United slumped to yet another defeat against one of the sides above them – this time at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. Moyes’ men started the game on the front foot, but Samuel Eto’s brace before half-time turned the game on its head. Samuel Eto’o completed the victory early in the second half, before Chicharito found a consolation.

David de Gea – Couldn’t do anything about the goals, and made an excellent point blank save to save us from more embarrassment. 6/10

Rafael – Lucky to have not seen red for an awful two-footed tackle on Gary Cahill. Was at fault for Chelsea’s second goal too. Not a day to remember for Rafa. 3/10

Jonny Evans – Looked nervous throughout. Perhaps he’s lacking in sharpness after being injured, but should’ve done better. 4/10

Nemanja Vidic – Deserved his red card for a reckless lunge on Eden Hazard. He looked uncomfortable whenever one of Chelsea’s front three ran at him. At fault for Eto’os second as he didn’t get tight enough. 3/10

Patrice Evra – Willian seemed to get a lot of joy out of Evra before he was substituted through injury early in the second half. 4/10

Phil Jones – Looked rusty after his long injury lay-off. Could’ve done more work defensively, although contributed to our consolation goal. 4/10

Michael Carrick – One of our better performers. Picked some nice passes and tried to drive us forward but sadly didn’t get much help. 5/10

Antonio Valencia – Played Eto’o onside for his third. Struggled with his crossing once again. Same old story. 3/10

Adnan Januzaj – The only player in red who looked like he cared. He tried to get things going forward and did some nice work, especially in the first half. 6/10

Ashley Young – Made Petr Cech work early on. Linked up with with Adnan Januzaj but subbed off early in the second to make way for Chicharito. 4/10

Danny Welbeck – Held up play well, but never looked like scoring. 5/10

Subs:

Chris Smalling – Came on at right-back. Won his fair share of headers but struggled to find red shirts. 5/10

Javier Hernandez – Scored our consolation goal via a tap-in. Played some nice balls into the box but you want Chicharito on the end of them rather than delivering them. 6/10
