Player Ratings: Dalot dazzles on debut, Pogba brilliant as United beat Young Boys

David de Gea – Made some excellent saves in the first half to preserve his clean sheet. 6/10

Diogo Dalot – Started life as a Red Devil brilliantly. His pace, power, height and energy was clear for all to see. The only way is seemingly up for this talented young man. 7/10

Chris Smalling – After losing his footing a couple of times trying to adjust to the pitch, he settled and commanded the back line well. 6/10

Victor Lindelof – Defended nicely, played some nice passes out from the back. Seems to be growing in confidence. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Nice to have him back out there playing. He was solid enough. 5/10

Nemanja Matic – Started slowly but made some crucial tackles and blocks at the end of the first half. 5/10

Fred – Average. He looks like the talent is there just waiting to be unleashed. Perhaps Fred isn’t fully adapted just yet… 4/10

Paul Pogba – Donning the captain’s armband, he led by example. His first goal was an absolute cracker on his weaker foot, while his penalty was decisive. Why can’t he play like this every week? Also tacked on an excellent pass for his countryman to make it 3-0. 8/10

Marcus Rashford – Looked lively without really threatening. Rashford isn’t a natural right-winger though, so that can sort of explain the struggles. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Played like a man who tried to leave the club over the summer. You get the feeling that his heart just isn’t in it. That didn’t stop him from cooly slotting home to end all Young Boys’ hope, though. 5/10

Romelu Lukaku – Led the line relatively well. Held the ball up nicely. Was missing that final piece of magic, though. 5/10

Subs:

Juan Mata – Didn’t really get into the game.

Marouane Fellaini – Helped United see it out and preserve their clean sheet.

Andreas Pereira – Nice to see him back involved.
