Player Ratings: Derby County 1-3 Manchester United – outstanding youngsters

David de Gea – Otherwise untroubled putting George Thorne’s superb strike aside. On the whole did well. 6/10

Guillermo Varela – Looked a real threat going forward from the full-back slot. Was a cause for concern defensively at times. 6/10

Chris Smalling – Marshalled the back four wonderfully, and handled the physical threat of Chris Martin superbly. 7/10

Daley Blind – Took his goal brilliantly. A real strikers instinct. Superb all-round performance. 8/10

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – Wasn’t afraid to go into any challenge, was brave throughout. Still far from the finished article but did well. 6/10

Marouane Fellaini – His first touch was shocking. As you’d expect he threw his weight around a bit. 5/10

Morgan Schneiderlin – At fault for Derby’s equaliser, but did well putting that aside. 5/10

Juan Mata – Didn’t offer an awful lot in the first half but was a real menace in the second. Took his goal cooly to seal the tie. 6/10

Jesse Lingard – Much-improved tonight. Nowhere near the finished article but did well. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Ran the show. He terrorised the Derby defence throughout, and made two fantastic assists. 8/10

Wayne Rooney – His goal was an outstanding piece of skill. Led the line well. 7/10

Ander Herrera – Passed it around nicely.
