Player Ratings: Man United beat Real Madrid as Sanchez, Pereira shine again

David de Gea – Made a decent save or two, but wasn’t tested all too thoroughly. It was nice to see him back in United colours after a pretty poor World Cup by his standards. 5/10

Matteo Darmian – Played pretty well once again. He did his defensive duties, while also getting forward where possible. His cross into Sanchez for the opener was inch-perfect. 6/10

Eric Bailly – His positioning has been worryingly poor this tour. That was, unfortunately, the case at times again tonight. 4/10

Timothy Fosu-Mensah – Pretty similar to Bailly, really. Hasn’t really stood out, I’d be surprised to see him regularly involved when the season starts. 4/10

Luke Shaw – His positioning wasn’t ideal at times. He didn’t really get into the game as much as we’d like, either. 4/10

Ander Herrera – His usual, lively self. Took his goal brilliantly with a first-time effort. 6/10

Scott McTominay – Seemingly went off injured to further add to Mourinho’s problems. He was okay throughout, but didn’t really stand out at the heart of the back three. 5/10

Fred – An excellent debut. He put in a cool, calm and collected display, controlling the midfield with his passing ability and on-ball skills. 7/10

Juan Mata – Continued an impressive pre-season with some super passes and pieces of interplay. 6/10

Andreas Pereira – Showed a real maturity and intelligence when going forward, didn’t mind helping out defensively, either. It’s going to be a big twelve months for him. 6/10

Alexis Sanchez – Once again, the stand-out player. He opened the scoring with a super finish after some excellent work from Darmian. 8/10

Axel Tuanzebe – Won some key headers.

Demetri Mitchell – Pretty solid.

James Garner – What a moment for the 17-year-old.
